
Analogue Tachograph FAQ's
Question: " Do i have to carry out a full calibration if the sensor to gearbox seal has been broken to replace the clutch assembly?"
Answer : No on an Analogue tachograph system you may replace the seal under the Minor work procedure detailed in the ATCM
Question: "Do i have to fit a K label showing the Constant of the Tachograph?"
Answer: Yes a K label should be fitted in close proximity to the data plaque
Question: " Which tachograph systems should be equipped with armoured sensor cable"
Answer: Any vehicle registered after 1.1.96 which is not equipped with an encrypted motion sensor must be fitted with armoured sheathed sensor cable to prevent tampering.
Question: " If my Tachograph fails can i turn it into a speedometer?"
Answer: "If the vehicle falls within the scope of the requirement of having to be equipped with a tachograph then a new type of tachograph should be fitted to replace the defective unit and the defective tachograph turned into a speedometer. This is especially relevant to Motometer EGK 100 and 1319 tachographs which are integrated into the dashboard and are no longer readily available. However fitment of the new tachograph and subsequent decommissioning of the old faulty tachograph into becoming a speedometer must be carried out strictly within the guidelines issued in the relevant DVSA Special Notice

Question: " Do i have to carry out a full calibration if the sensor to gearbox seal has been broken to replace the clutch assembly?"
Answer: Yes if the gearbox to sensor seal has been broken then a full calibration is required. However remember that the sensor should not be sealed to the sensor cable.
Question: " What happens if the card gets stuck inside the VU?"
Answer: You should follow the card retival procedures set out in your TachoTab Digital Procedures Module.
Question: " What happens if the operator fits a private number plate to the vehicle?"
Answer : A recalibration of the Vehicle Unit must take place.
